Hangtime is a psychedelic concoction of musical experiences translated into sound. It is the kind of album that reveals itself more and more with every listen. Each track seems to drive into peculiar sonic territories that unveil the producer's creativity and mastery of the genre. It's a compilation of a great variety of electronic music subgenres that are intended specifically for dancing crowds to boogie to all night long. It encompasses styles like house music, disco music, synthpop, techno music, trance music, drum and bass, dubstep and trap.
The genre of EDM has surged in popularity in the last 10-15 years or so, becoming much more than just a weird younger sibling of music. It is now a household name, recognizable even by those who might not have been to a dance club in their lifetime, with artists like Skrillex and Deadmau5 able to command massive audiences at festivals around the world. It all starts back in the early to mid-80s with the birth of a new kind of dance music called techno. Techno was an evolution of electronic music, combining the sounds of modern dance with the rhythms of classical and jazz. It was a huge hit in Europe, especially Germany and the UK, and helped bring the concept of EDM to a wider audience.
By the 90s, techno had branched out into other styles, including hard house and progressive house. It had also been absorbed by other genres such as disco, funk and hip-hop. In the 00s, the genre reached its peak of popularity, mainly because of the rise in popularity of events such as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) which saw huge crowds gather to party and listen to electronic music. These events helped popularize the term 'EDM', which has since become an umbrella term for all forms of modern dance music. The event itself draws huge crowds of people to a multi-day festival, where all sorts of different music is played to encourage dancing. The sound of the music is usually loud and bassy, with heavy beats that will make your chest vibrate.
It's also quite often accompanied by pyrotechnics, lights and costumes to create an immersive experience that will really get you in the zone. In fact, it's a perfect way to forget about your worries and just have fun. And who doesn't want that? The most recent EDM boom has electronic music been fueled by the success of many artists. In addition, the use of production techniques in hip-hop and pop music has helped to give EDM a more mainstream appeal. It's now possible to find a song on the radio or your favorite streaming service that incorporates elements of the genre.
