Psilocybe cubensis is the most popular species of psilocybin mushrooms and generally has a darker, more brownish colour than azurescens. Azurescens begins fruiting in late-September and continues even after the first frost occurs, until late December or even January.

While cubensis also emerges in September, their season is not as long as that of the azurescens – cubensis only lasts until November. Normally, Psilocybe cubensis grows to its maximum size in the two months prior to the hottest psilocybe azurescens period in the year. They can be grown all year around, resilient in pretty much any warm, tropical environment.

They often grow as wide as 9cm with their bell-shaped caps, so just a tad smaller than azurescens. Also, as previously mentioned, cubensis is less potent that azurescens, due to lower amounts of psychoactive compounds.
